A programme of remedial works to repair areas of failed resurfacing completed during last winter will get under way in Harrogate and Knaresborough this month.
A number of sites, including some from the initial extensive repair programme between October 2011 and February 2012, have been identified as needing further work.
Over six weeks from 20 August, Aggregate Industries, the contractor for the original works, will repair areas of failed surfacing across the towns. The contractor will be meeting the cost of these repairs in full.
As previously, the majority of the work will be undertaken during the evening to reduce disruption. The county council consulted widely when the original works were undertaken, so the timetable for the remedial work is based on those agreements.
County Councillor John Batt, local member for Knaresborough, said:
It is very unfortunate that this work is having to be redone, but we have to make sure that our roads are maintained in the best possible condition. Thankfully, this will not fall on the taxpayer; we have made sure that the cost is met by the contractor who carried out the work in the first place.
A spokesperson for Aggregate Industries said:
We need to revisit works carried out in Harrogate and Knaresborough that have not met our normal high standard. We are pleased to have a good relationship with North Yorkshire County Council and we will be working with them to ensure disruption to commuters is kept to a minimum while the works are taking place. We apologise for all inconvenience caused.

Hi,
I live on Franklin Mount in Harrogate and have had our road resurfaced a few weeks ago. I think Aggregate have finished but it looks REALLY BAD and the surface is all over the place. I would be ashamed of myself if I were mending the roads and then left them looking like they are!! Who goes to inspect them and sign off the work?
