Witness appeal after York cyclist seriously injured

PolicePolice are appealing for witnesses after a York cyclist sustained serious injuries when he was knocked from his bike on Bishopthorpe Road, York.

Just after 11pm on Friday 27 July 2012, a red Seat car collided with the cyclist at the junction with Charlton Street.

The Seat failed to stop at the scene and then went on to collide with a parked transit van further along Bishopthorpe Road before coming to rest upside down.

The cyclist, a 39-year-old man from York sustained serious head, neck and wrist injuries and was taken to York District Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The 15-year-old male driver of the car was arrested at the scene of the second collision on suspicion of numerous offences including taking a car without consent, drink driving and failing to stop after a collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses to either of the collisions or anyone who saw the Seat travelling in the Bishopthorpe Road area prior to the two collisions.

The 15-year-old youth has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.
