The police have now named the motorcyclist who died during a race at Oliver’s Mount race circuit in Scarborough on Sunday 22 July 2012.
His name is Steven Denis Hix, 38, from Holbeach near Spalding, Lincolnshire.
The police have renewed their appeal for spectators who witnessed the crash to come forward. In particular, anyone with any video footage.
Family statement from Steven’s father Denis Hix:
Steve was an accomplished and experienced racer with a passion for the sport and many wins at all levels to his credit. On track, he was well known for being a hard charger and fiercely competitive. Off track, a kind and loving family man.
The family would like to thank all those in attendance following the accident, particularly the on-track medics, and the A&E trauma team at Scarborough District Hospital for their help and support.
Also, thank you to everyone for all the messages of condolence and support the family have received and through these we know that Steve will be sadly missed in the paddock but never forgotten.
Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood who is investigating the incident, said:
Biking enthusiasts will have travelled from for and wide to watch the races, and it is them who I am appealing to for assistance with this investigation. Fan’s video footage could be extremely valuable in determining the sequence of events which led to the collision. It is vital that we establish what caused this tragic event and anyone who can assist us is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.

The collision occurred at around 6pm on Sunday 22 July, when Mr Hix was involved in a collision during a planned road race event. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was sadly pronounced dead on arrival at Scarborough District Hospital.
The collision is being treated as a single vehicle collision and occurred at the bottom straight of the circuit where Mr Hix lost control of the his motorcycle and came to rest in a field.
Racing was suspended at the circuit while police collision investigators examined the scene of the crash.
