Detectives investigating a robbery in York are appealing for a vital witness to come forward.
It is believed that a man who came to the aid of a 17-year-old youth who was being robbed on Stonebow may have information that could help the investigation.
Sometime between 1pm and 1.30pm on Friday 13 July 2012, the victim was approached by a 16-year-old youth outside the job centre who allegedly grabbed him by the throat and forced him to hand over his mobile phone.
The 16-year-old youth was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail as enquiries continue. Despite the arrest officers are still appealing for witnesses to come forward, in particular the man who helped the victim.
Detective Constable Bev Hodgson, of York CID, said:
I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.
It is important that we speak to the man who came to the victim’s aid as he may have information vital to our enquiries.
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Bev Hodgson or York CID.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
