Harrogate police have arrested two Teesside men on suspicion of burglary and theft after part of a roof was stolen from an unoccupied storage building near Minskip in the Harrogate area.
On 10 July, officers received reports from the owner of the building that part of the wooden and concrete roof had been removed between 7 July and yesterday (10 July). Police officers carried out patrols of the area believing that the suspects may return to remove the rest of the roof.
Later on Tuesday morning, two men arrived and began dismantling the remainder of the roof. The pair attempted to drive off from the scene when they spotted the police officer who had parked nearby, but were quickly arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary and taken into custody for questioning. The suspects are also assisting police with enquires relating to the theft of equipment from the same building in June.
The suspects are both aged 22, one is of no fixed address, the other is from Stockton. They have both been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.
