Andrew Jones, Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is welcoming news that a decision is due this month on who will be chosen to roll-out high speed broadband across North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire County Council has been carrying out a rigorous procurement process following their designation as a superfast broadband pilot area by the Government.
The final touches are being put to a 50 million pound contract with the winning bidder which is due to be announced by the County Council later this month.
Andrew believes bringing high quality broadband connections to homes and businesses across the county will transform the economic prospects for North Yorkshire.
Andrew Jones MP said:
Whether it’s by allowing businesses to set-up or expand in North Yorkshire, giving older people the opportunity to connect to their families online or allowing younger people to learn remotely, better internet access will provide a major boost narrowing the digital divide that currently exists between our major towns and cities and our rural communities.
