The family of a man who is in a coma after being seriously assaulted in York are being urged to come forward.
Stephen Eastwood, aged 45, of no fixed address, has been unconscious in York District Hospital since being found with serious head injuries at the site of the old Reg Vardy garage on Lawrence Street on Tuesday 27 March 2012.
Officers believe he sustained his injuries when he was attacked with a hammer.
Despite extensive police enquiries, detectives have been unable to trace Stephen’s next of kin and are now appealing to the public to help them locate any of his family.
Detective Inspector Ian Dyer, of York CID, said:
Stephen has been in a coma for over a week now since he was discovered unconscious and badly injured after the brutal attack. There has been no change in his condition throughout that time and sadly there has been no family members to support him at his bedside.
I am keen to trace any members of his family who could potentially help his recovery and offer him the support he needs to get over his ordeal.
If you are a member of Stephen’s family or you know of any relatives he may have, please contact the police with any information that could help us get in touch with them.
The investigation into the assault is continuing and officers are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. A 25-year-old woman has been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue. The other three people have been released without further police action.
