Harrogate Town mourn the loss of an under 19’s player

16 February 2012

Harrogate Town AFC  Under-19’s player Alex Emmett passed away at his home on Sunday 12 February 2012.

Alex, 18, who played in defence, was a very talented player and a very well-liked young man who had made sixteen appearances for the Under-19’s as they challenged at the top of the York FA Under 19′s Division 1. His brother Jack had broken into the first team and it was hoped that Alex would also make the step up as well.

Commenting on this tragic event, a visibly upset first team manager, Simon Weaver, said:

On Sunday afternoon I received a telephone call from Mark Forster, the Under-19’s manager, to tell me of the awful and shocking news that Alex Emmett had passed away. It is hard to comprehend that such a young and fit lad is not with us anymore. Alex was the ‘Mr Reliable’ from the Under-19s squad. In each of the games and training sessions that I saw Alex play he acquitted himself with great intelligence and honesty.

This is a huge blow for the Under-19’s team, many of whom have grown up playing alongside Alex. He really was a popular figure with his team-mates. The whole of the club is hurting right now but our immediate thoughts are with Jack, who was Alex’s twin brother, his younger sister Laura and Mr & Mrs Emmett. We must give them all the support we can.

Harrogate Town AFC have sent their deepest sympathies and condolences to Alex’s family at this awful time.
