Surgery for Sadie Rose has been postponed following the results of a CT scan.
On 8th August 2009 Sadie Rose was born, but by October 2010 aged just 14 months old, had been diagnosed with a childhood Cancer called Neuroblastoma.
Following an appeal in Knaresborough and Harrogate, she managed to secure a place at an America Hospital for treatment not available in the UK.
Sadie arrived at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York last week, under the care of Dr Kim Kramer. Dr Kramer is a specialist paediatric oncologist who specializes in the care of children with neuroblastoma.
Sadies Mum, Katie Clifford said:
Last week we arrived in New York full of hope. We met with Dr Kramer at MSKCC.
Scans were scheduled for the rest of the week. Sadie had CT scans, MRI scans, specialist Bone Scans and Bone Marrow tests.
Yesterday we had an appointment to for another MRI and this was purely for the Neurosurgeon at the hospital. He needed to know exactly where to place the port in Sadie’s head, so treatment could start ASAP.
The surgery scheduled for today (19th Jan 12) has now been postponed due to the recent findings from the scan.
Sadie’s parents yesterday morning met again with Dr Kramer and was told the devastating news that the scans had showed multiple tumours in her liver and in her chest.
Katie added:
We are numb and in shock of the findings. The doctors are now putting together a further quote but we have only raised money for the initial treatment and not for this.
I am having nightmares now and all I can think about is the worst outcome.
Katie and Daz Clifford are now waiting for the Hospital to come up with a new treatment plan with a revised quote for the cost. The money raised so far is not likely to be sufficient to cover the cost of the revised treatment.
Support from the public is needed.
