Harrogate is to have a new primary substation to improve the capacity and resilience of the network.
The substation will be built by Northern Powergrid on land currently owned by the Harrogate Water Brands company on Harlow Moor Road. This site has been chosen as an alternative to the previously proposed St Wilfrid’s site.
The project will be managed over a number of phases and is expected to be complete by Spring 2013.
- Modification of the existing Jennyfields substation
- Construction of the new substation
- Installation of new underground cable from the Jennyfields substation through the Duchy area to the new substation
- Installation of connections through to the town centre, under roads and pathways
The total project cost will be £10million and all work will be carried out without supply interruption. Residence in the Duchy area who are affected by the underground cable have all been written to.
