Serious accident on the A61 at South Stainley

PoliceTwo people have been injured in an accident today (15 Dec 2011) that has shut the  A61 in South Stainley.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious collision that occurred at around 10am this morning between a DAF lorry and a grey Subaru Outback, near to the Red Lion Pub.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the collision.

The occupants of the Subaru, an elderly couple believed to be from the Harrogate area, were both injured in the collision.

The man was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, the woman was taken by ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital.

The extent of their injuries are unknown at this stage.

The road remains closed in both directions. (as of 14:20 15 Dec 11)
