Railway ladies were away to Brayton Belles today (6th Nov 11) in a reversed fixture, who have only been beaten once this year.
Railway got off to a tentative start but within the first 10 minutes already the pressure was starting to mount on the Brayton goal.
Chance after chance was created but Railways finishing was lacking, until the half hour mark when a 6 pass move ended up on the end of Ali Purvis’s right boot & a pin point cross was met by Dee Swales on the volley – 1-0 Railway.
A barrage of pressure on Braytons goal then followed until half time with scrambles & numerous shots on the goal, but luck was not on Railway’s side – 1-0 Half time.
Railway came out of the blocks flying in the second half & were playing champagne football, where endless passes continued to create chances. On 55 minutes Ellie MacLeod (Player of the Match) won at least 3 tackles before the ball went wide & then back inside to Hannah Campbell, who’s first touch took the ball away from the defender before drilling the ball deep in the bottom corner – 2-0 Railway!
Within 2 minutes Railways solid & creative midfield again won back the ball before feeding Hannah on the 18 yard line where she curled the ball into the top corner – 3-0 Railway!!
Railway persistently had to deal with Braytons physical game as numerous bad challenges seemed to continue without avail & player disagreements started to boil.
All in all a fantastic mature footballing show by Railway’s squad that deserved more goals, but a clean sheet & the manner of the victory was excellent against a well organised side. Huge thanks to Brayton to reversing the fixture.
Next week Railway are away again to another title rival in Keighley in the league.
