Police in Thirsk are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man following the theft of a purse in the town.
It occurred at 11.40am on Friday 14 October 2011, in Martin McColl’s newsagents in the Market Place, when a man took a purse which had been left on a counter near to the Lotto stand.
The suspect is described as white, aged between 16 and 20, around 6ft tall with a slim build. He has short dark hair which is shaved at the sides which tapers to a point at the back. At the time he was wearing a dark coloured jacket with a plaid lining in the hood.
PC Jon Grainge, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
I believe that this theft was an opportunistic crime committed by a person who lives locally, rather than someone visiting the town to carry out this type of offence.
I am appealing to anyone who may be able to identify the man shown on CCTV to come forward as soon as possible.
