Harrogate’s inability to defend from set pieces cost them dear against high flying Hyde.

The visitors took the lead as early as the 7th minute when Andy Pearson turned in Ryan Crowther’s frre kick.

Harrogate countered, but Referee Billy Khatib waved away Town’s penalty claims after Jonny Allan had been brought down by Pearson, much to the disgust of the home crowd.

Hyde skipper David Birch almost turned a Liam Darville cross into his own goal, but generally the Hyde defence had little trouble in repelling Town’s attacks.

Ex Town player Dan Broadbent shot just over the bar and Zac Jones made a flying save from Griffin’s free kick as Hyde dominated.

On the stroke of half time, Town’s best move of the half culminated with Laurie Wilson hitting Darville’s pass over the bar.

After some early Town pressure, Hyde scored again after 54 minutes when Callum Byrne’s corner fell to Danny Hall, who had time to pick his spot to make it 2-0.

Town brought on all three subs in an attempt to get back into the game.

With Lee Elam prominent, they enjoyed a lot of possession, but could not find the killer touch.

However,on 68 minutes the unmarked Gianluca Havern headed home from a corner to put the result beyond doubt.

Town squandered a late chance to get onto the score sheet when Wilson ballooned a free kick well over the crossbar.
