Appeal for information following Hawes antique shop burglary

Police are appealing for the public’s help to trace a dark coloured Audi following a burglary from an antiques shop in Hawes.

It occurred at approximately 3am on Tuesday 4th October 2011 from Sturnam’s Antiques on Main Street.

The burglars smashed their way through the front door before breaking into a display cabinet and stealing a large quantity of jewellery. The stolen items include diamond solitaire rings and other rings set with precious and semi precious stones. They are valued in excess of £10,000.

The only description of the offender is that they were wearing dark clothing and baseball cap with a scarf covering their face.

Following the incident a dark coloured Audi A3 was seen leaving the area and is believed to have headed towards Leyburn.

DC Lee Allenby, of Northallerton CID said:

I would like to speak to anyone who has any information about this burglary and ask that they contact the police as soon as possible. I am especially keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a dark coloured Audi in the area prior to the incident.

I would also ask that anyone who has been offered rings in suspicious circumstances contact the police or Crimestoppers.
