Elderly woman hit by car in Ripon

Police are appealing for information following a road traffic collision in Ripon.

It occurred at approximately 9am on Monday 26 September 2011 at the junction of Park Street and Firby Lane as an elderly woman, crossing Firby Lane, collided with a silver Fiat Punto. At the time of the incident the Punto was turning right onto Firby Lane.

The pedestrian, a 74-year-old local woman, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with head injuries, where she remains in a stable condition. The 72-year-old local woman driving the Punto was not injured.

Traffic Constable Neil Cholmondeley, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

Thankfully the injuries suffered by the pedestrian do not appear to be life threatening.

As the area was quite busy at the time I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the pedestrian or the car prior to the incident and ask that they contact the police as soon as possible.
