Northallerton police are trying to trace the owner of a van load of stolen steel.
Officers have released images of the metal which was recovered when two men were arrested on 26 August 2011.
The men, aged 31 and 34, from Hartlepool, were stopped in a white Transit van with ‘Practical Van Hire’ written on the side. Officers found a large quantity of steel, which is believed to have been stolen from the Northallerton area, in the back of the van.
The men have been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
The steel was marked with numbers as if it was being prepared for assembly or had been recently dismantled.
Police are appealing to anyone who recognises the steel to contact them with information.
PC Neil Brodhurst, of Northallerton Police, said:
If you recognise the steel from the pictures or know who it might belong to, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.
There is quite a large quantity in the back of the van so I would hope that someone has noticed it has gone. If you have any steel stored anywhere, check it has not been stolen.
