Police recovered approximately £19,000 and arrested two men after a car was stopped on the A19 near Osmotherley, Northallerton.
Road policing officers stopped the car, a Kia Sedona, which was travelling southbound at around 12.30pm on Monday 12 September 2011. Officers carried out a search of the vehicle and found the cash contained in a carrier bag.
The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 62-year-old man from Middlesbrough was arrested at the scene on suspicion of money laundering.
A subsequent search of a property in Middlesbrough resulted in the owner of the vehicle, a 45-year-old Middlesbrough man, also being arrested on suspicion of money laundering this morning (13 September).
The cash and vehicle were seized by the police under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Both men have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
