Emergency services were called yesterday (20th June) to Springfield Farm, Cold Cotes Road, Felliscliffe (near to Kettlesing) where building work had collapsed.
The collapse of the building work had caused a fatal injury to one individual and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation has now been opened by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the North Yorkshire Police who are investigating the circumstances behind the incident.
Police spokeswoman said:
“North Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint investigation after a man was killed when a building under renovation collapsed in a village near Harrogate.
“Police, firefighters and paramedics were alerted to the property on Cold Cotes Road in Felliscliffe at around 3pm on Monday 20 June 2011. An air ambulance also attended but was stood down.
“The 48-year-old man who was trapped in the building was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem will be carried out in due course. We are not yet in a position to identify the man.
“Police and HSE enquiries are ongoing at the location.”
