A 21-year-old man from Huddersfield has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is detained by police and will be interviewed this evening.
Six-year-old Owen Wightman died after being struck by a vehicle on Fishpond Lane in the Chapelthorpe area of Wakefield at around 12.20pm on Saturday. A grey or light coloured small hatchback type vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
