JAPANESE, Polish and Russian are just three of the ten languages to be offered by Harrogate’s Rossett Extended School following confirmation of a partnership with one of Yorkshire’s leading universities.
The centre will offer part-time daytime and evening classes in Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, with levels ranging from beginners to more advanced levels.
In addition, French and Spanish classes for primary school teachers will be offered, aimed at those with little or no prior knowledge of the languages.
To celebrate the launch of the partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, a number of free two-hour taster sessions will be offered next month, aimed at giving a flavour of the language and culture of the different countries.
Prospective students can sample Russian on Monday, June 20, Japanese on Tuesday, June 21 and Spanish on Wednesday, June 22. All three sessions take place from 7pm – 9pm. Further taster sessions in all ten lanuages are planned in September.
Malcolm Howe, who runs the Extended Schools programme at Rossett School, said: “We’re delighted to confirm our new partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University. It’s very exciting that we can offer such a varied range of language courses at such a high standard. Whether people are looking to develop their language skills at different levels for work, travel or fun, they will be spoilt for choice. We hope as many people as possible will attend the taster sessions to get an idea of what we can offer at Rossett Extended School.”
