22 May 2011

Dewsbury CID are appealing for witnesses after a takeaway delivery man was robbed in Birstall on Monday 16 May.

At around 11:30pm the 55-year old went to Cambridge Road in Birstall to make a delivery after a telephone order was placed. The caller did not however leave any details with takeaway.

On arrival at Cambridge Road the driver was robbed by a group of men and had cash taken from him.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident and asking takeaways in the area to be wary of anonymous calls from would-be customers.

A spokesman said: “We would like to ask takeaway staff to take full details of customers placing telephone orders and be mindful of people who are not willing to give this information as their motives could be to rob delivery staff. We would also urge delivery drivers not to take large amounts of cash with them.

“Anyone with information on Monday’s robbery is asked to contact DC 3941 Jim Rudge at Dewsbury CID on 01924 431012 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
