Selby police are warning shoppers to be vigilant after two elderly women had their handbags stolen in a local supermarket.
The victims, aged 82 and 89, were shopping in Morrisons, Market Cross, at lunchtime on Saturday 14 May 2011, when they were targeted by thieves.
Both women, who were shopping separately, made it to the checkouts before discovering that their bags had been snatched from within their trolleys.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the thefts to come forward with information and are advising people to take care of their personal belongings when out shopping.
PC Stuart Henderson, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was an extremely callous crime against two innocent, elderly ladies who were out shopping.
“As the store was very busy at the time, I hoping that someone may have some information that can help us apprehend the offenders and bring them to justice.
“I would also urge anyone who is out shopping to take extra care of their personal belongings and ensure they don’t make life easy for thieves.”
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Stuart Henderson, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110078339.
