Big Seizures Made In Bradford Drugs Project

17 May 2011

Around £65,000 in cash and £15,000 of suspected Class A Drugs have been seized as part of ongoing work to clamp down on drug dealing in the West Bowling area of Bradford.

On Thursday 12 May 2011 the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Bradford South Proceeds of Crime Team executed a series of warrants.

They attended two addresses on Ryan Street acting on information from the public.

Two men aged 23 and 25 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of Possession With Intent to Supply Class A Drugs and Money Laundering offences. Both are currently on police bail.

The BD5 pilot project was launched in January this year to encourage people to take a stand and report drug related incidents within their neighbourhood.

West Bowling Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Darren Minton said:

“Under this initiative, we joined forces with local Primary schools, Bradford Council, Crimestoppers, My BD5, Bradford Trident as well as local faith groups.

“Through myth busting leaflets delivered directly to residents and a series of high profile information events we looked to encourage more people to come forward and tell us about drug related offences.

“By March, we found that anonymous information being passed to Crimestoppers had increased by 30 percent compared to the same time the previous year.

“This has culminated in this latest operation which has seen some significant seizures and arrests.

“By working together we are continuing to make a difference to the quality of life for residents and turning the spotlight upon those who are committing these crimes.

“If you suspect drug dealing in your area or have any information relating to drugs please contact Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
