Platinum Print make big investment in technology

Platinum Print, the printing and mailing company based at Hookstone Park in Harrogate, was one of the big spenders at Northprint, the UK print industry show which was held in Harrogate last week.

Managing director, David Wyvill confirmed the purchase of the £168,000 Ricoh C901 digital press on the last morning of the show.

David said he had been looking to boost the £2.8m turnover firm’s digital capabilities for 12 months, with the company beginning its search at last year’s Ipex print show.

This purchase follows the acquisition in March of a £130,000 mailing machine for the mailing services arm of the business and an increase in staff numbers with three new employees joining the firm.

The purchase of the Ricoh digital press is regarded as an important digital addition to the extensive litho print facility offered by Platinum.

David Wyvill commented: “Digital and litho are complementary, I don’t necessarily think that digital is going to take over from litho. We have a sister company, Platinum Mailing Services and digital certainly complements that; if you want variable data and imagery this is where the excitement about digital is. Producing true variable documents is where the power of digital really comes to bear”

Platinum Print increased its turnover in the last financial year by 15%, bucking the trend in the print industry in general and with a number of major blue-chip clients as well as a firm customer-base of local businesses, Platinum looks set to increase turnover again in 2011.

Northprint is one of the largest shows of its kind and is held at the Exhibition Centre in Harrogate with over 2,250 visitors to the show this year.
