A Leeds indie band is set to strike a chord with tourists after providing the soundtrack for a national TV advert promoting Yorkshire.
The Sunshine Underground’s memorable and catchy ‘Put You In Your Place’ has been chosen by Welcome to Yorkshire – the county’s official tourism agency – to be the theme tune to the latest round of TV adverts.
The TV ads, based on the strapline of ‘So much, so near, so different – have a brilliant Yorkshire’, cut images of some of the county’s biggest and most varied destinations and attractions to the band’s track as part a national marketing campaign to attract even more visitors.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The Sunshine Underground’s track is fresh, vibrant and memorable – all of which describe just some of the county’s great characteristics.
“We think they will continue to thrive and have a very bright future – as their name suggests – and that mirrors our feelings for tourism in Yorkshire. We know TV advertising has a huge impact on visitor numbers, which helps us in our work to drive up visitor numbers by 5% year-on-year.”
Craig Wellington, lead singer of The Sunshine Underground said: “It’s great to have this opportunity to help promote Yorkshire and put something back into the county that’s been so supportive of our band since day one.”
The advert launched on Monday in the 7.45pm primetime slot on ITV 1, following Welcome to Yorkshire’s Y 11 event in Leeds – the UK’s biggest tourism conference – where the agency announced its major campaigns for the coming year to promote the county.
