As part of Harrogate Borough Council’s ‘Working for Business’ project, staff from the Economic Development and Business Rates teams are joining forces with a representative from the Valuation Office Agency to come into business areas to explain about business rates and how business properties are valued.
Councillor Jim Clark, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transport and Economic Development, hopes that businesses in the Ripon area will attend this first event. He added: “The council and the Greater Ripon Improvement Partnership are jointly hosting the roadshow. Businesses will be receiving their business rate bills about now and this is a good opportunity for them to ask questions face to face about how the figures are calculated, how their business is valued and what happens to the rates that the borough council collects.
“There could also be good news for some businesses, including small enterprises, those in rural areas, those with empty properties and some local charities, who may be eligible for refunds. The best thing for all businesses in the area is to come along and ask questions.”
The Ripon Business Rate Roadshow is being held on Wednesday, 23 March 2011 between 5.30pm and 7:30pm in Ripon Town Hall, Market Place, Ripon
